Everything you’ve ever wanted to know about our retail podcast

ReStories: Real Retail Stories is a monthly retail podcast about the people behind retail.

Host Cameron Wakefield, ReStore’s Head of Customer, sits down with leaders, builders and change makers to unpack the decisions, challenges and defining moments that shaped their careers. Producer Peter Curry co-hosts, and ReStore co-founder Kylie Quirke joins as an occasional host. Episodes are recorded in ReStore for Retail’s studios in Melbourne and Sydney. In retail, the numbers usually get the headlines. ReStories tells the stories of the people who deliver them.

Because the industry is full of brilliant people doing hard, unglamorous and genuinely clever work, and almost none of it gets talked about. Most retail podcasts focus on trends and results. ReStories goes after the stories behind them: what leaders tried, what worked and what didn’t. It isn’t a sales pitch, and ReStore only appears in a short sponsor message. But it comes from the same belief that drives our retail execution software. The numbers tell you what happened. The people tell you why.

Guests so far range from rising store leaders to former CEOs. Felicity Hann leads retail nationally for JD Sports Australia. Colleen Callander spent 13 years as CEO of Sussan and Sportsgirl, and Dean Salakas built The Party People before co-founding The Retail Community. Turnaround specialist James Stewart, LMND founder Ana Escobar and Lids Head of Retail Duane Yaxley have joined too. So have Metin Hulusi of YD, Lachlan Ashton of The Good Kid, executive search partner Paul Tulip and retail adviser Kylie Cumming.

Each episode is a career’s worth of practical lessons. Guests cover leadership and culture, building teams that stay, turning a store into an experience and leading through a downturn. James Stewart explains what retail collapses teach about trust and simplicity.

Dean Salakas shares how asking “what are the 8% buying?” turned a 92% sales drop into a pivot that beat the prior year. Recent episodes also ask where AI fits in stores, and why guests believe it should make teams more productive rather than smaller.

For us, the best retail podcast is the one that changes how you lead on Monday. ReStories skips the polished case study. Guests talk openly about the hires they got wrong, the growth that nearly broke the business and the lessons that stuck.

For many episodes, Cameron canvasses the guest’s network first to hear how others see them, so the conversation starts somewhere honest. A quickfire round closes most episodes with the brands guests admire and the trends they think are mostly noise.

A new episode lands every month. You can find ReStories: Real Retail Stories on Apple Podcasts and in the podcast app you already use, and every episode also lives here on the ReStore for Retail website with its transcript. If you’re building a list of retail podcasts worth your commute, start with the latest episode or go back to episode one with Lachlan Ashton. Follow the show so you never miss a new guest, and share it with someone in your team who would get something from it.
